Hair Care Guide
Hair Care Guide
Your extensions are an investment. Follow this guide to keep them looking fresh, full, and beautiful for as long as possible.
Before You Wash
- Detangle your hair from ends to roots using a wide-tooth comb or a paddle brush before washing. Never start at the roots.
- If your hair is in a sew-in, braid pattern, or tape-in, detangle gently without pulling at the bonds or wefts.
Washing
- Use a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates strip moisture and can loosen tape bonds.
- Dilute your shampoo slightly with water before applying.
- Wash in a downward motion from root to tip. Never scrub in circular motions — this causes tangling and matting.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Hot water opens the cuticle and causes frizz.
- Wash every 7–14 days, or more often if you use heavy products.
Conditioning
- Apply a moisturizing conditioner from mid-shaft to ends. Avoid the roots and bonds if you have tape-ins.
- Leave on for 3–5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- Use a deep conditioner or mask once a month to restore moisture and shine.
Drying
- Gently squeeze (don’t rub) excess water out with a microfiber towel.
- Air drying is best. If you use a blow dryer, use a diffuser attachment on low heat for curly textures, or a concentrator nozzle on medium heat for straight textures.
- Never go to bed with wet hair — this causes tangling, matting, and mold at the weft.
Heat Styling
- Always apply a heat protectant spray before any hot tool.
- Keep flat irons and curling wands below 380°F (190°C).
- Limit heat styling to 2–3 times per week to preserve the hair’s integrity over time.
- Raw and virgin hair can handle heat better than processed hair, but consistent high heat will still cause damage over time.
Overnight Care
- Always braid or twist your hair into loose sections before bed.
- Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase. Cotton absorbs moisture and causes friction.
- Alternatively, wrap your hair in a satin bonnet or scarf.
Products to Use
- Do use: Sulfate-free shampoo, moisturizing conditioner, leave-in conditioner, heat protectant, light oils (argan, jojoba, coconut), satin accessories.
- Avoid: Sulfate shampoos, alcohol-based products, heavy greases or butters near the weft or bonds, dry shampoo on tape bonds.
Curly Texture Care
- Curly hair needs extra moisture. Use a leave-in conditioner every wash day.
- Finger detangle curly textures — avoid fine-tooth combs on dry curly hair.
- Refresh curls between washes with a light mist of water and a small amount of leave-in conditioner.
- To preserve curl pattern, avoid touching or manipulating the hair while it dries.
Tape-In Specific Care
- Avoid applying any oil or conditioner directly to the tape bonds — this causes them to slip.
- Avoid swimming in chlorine or salt water without protection, as both degrade the adhesive.
- Re-tape every 6–8 weeks or when bonds start to loosen.
